“What’s In Her Notes App?” is a collection of digital musings and reflections derived from a modern-aged Black woman’s notes. Such musings include poems exploring love and romance, death and dying, and (of course) living, quotes from books past read, digital finger paintings, and various other screenshots. Each page was meticulously and intuitively included and arranged such that time as you may know it, is irrelevant; but that a narrative is clear. In doing so, we are reminded of the importance of retrospection; moreover, that healing is never truly reflected in “time”.

Each note is a true screengrab from my Notes application, a notetaking app developed by Apple Inc and was reformatted by hand and/or through the power of AI. These notes, originally private, are being published now in hopes of sharing a glimpse into the woman’s psyche. To present to those curious what are the goings-ons of a girl’s mind and for girls to feel seen. To put words and images to things we only usually feel.

About “Her”

c. AUGUST 1998

Nia Alexis is a Jamaican-American artist, friend, and daughter based in Southern California.

Nia’s work aims to address deep subconscious thoughts on the concepts of love, growth, and overall womanhood through poetry and art-making. Writing has always been a form of expression for her and is often used as a method to self-soothe or for self-entertainment. Although she is a creative at heart, Nia is multi-disciplinary and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology.  With a wide range of skill sets, she hopes to one day publish a textbook exploring the innate human desire to find love. With great optimism, she strives to remedy society’s lack of knowledge and general wisdom surrounding these kinds of interpersonal relationships. Love is her passion, it is what drives her in life and she hopes to imbue this passion upon her audience as well.
